Can your Wardrobe, really bring you joy?

Have a wardrobe, that fills you with joy…

Where to start?

Take everything out of your wardrobe- yes EVERYTHING. Start pulling pieces that you wear the most, or pieces that just make you feel like your ‘best self’. Don’t touch those bleached stain joggers, we all have. Really concentrate of the things you bought, because you loved them- not the pieces you thought you needed.

Most worn:

Let’s face it we can’t all have Carrie Bradshaw’s wardrobe. Much of our wardrobes are saved for clothes we wear to work, or the mundane outfits we reach for when we just can’t be bothered.

Remembering the pieces you wear for a meeting where you need to feel your most confident. Answer truthfully: What in your most worn outfits make's you feel a little bit more comfortable in an uncomfortable situation?

Least worn:

We all have them, those clothes we keep ‘just in case’. ‘Just in case’ we wake up two stone lighter, ‘Just in case’ we wake up and feel more confident. Those clothes need to go. Holding on to an item for a moment, which may never come, will only make you feel deflated.

Letting go of pieces, creates more space for items that will make you feel better about yourself. A simple, hard but effective step, in creating a wardrobe you love.

Favourite stores:

Creatures of habit, like myself, know that realistically 80% of your wardrobe was bought from a store. Whether its ASOS, RIVER ISLAND or PRIMARK, we all have a brand we hold very close to our hearts.

Having a favorite store is not a bad thing, if anything it allows you to see your style. TopShop  for example, shows a unique yet sophisticated twist on casual, unlike, River island which I feel  has a much more edgier vibe. Understanding the stores you shop in will always help gain knowledge in your own style.

Timeless Pieces:
Style is personal, pieces that you can see yourself wearing for years to come are truly timeless. Don't umm and arr about it. If you wear it, love it and care about it keep it.
Some outfits,  remind us of times we will never have again.  Graduation, engagement dresses or just a piece that you hold dear to your heart, keep. If the garment itself makes you remember something you love- the space is not wasted, its very much well loved.

Your wardrobe should:
Inspire, for the day your future
Show your personal Style
 Create Confidence

I hope this post helps you realise that some pieces in your wardrobe aren't just 'clothes', they are timeless. Whether they fit or not, if they make you happy then keep them. Let me know what you think in the comments below.
All the love,
Em

  3. Amazing post Em! I love reading your posts :)
I'm not a massive fan of clothes shopping but I'm hoping that will change when I reach my weight loss goal... I do try and stick to the same things I'm comfortable with and seem to work for me anyway! I think that when I eventually have a wardrobe revamp and shopping spree I'll check back in to this for some reminders!

  4. This is a fantastic idea, Em! I definitely need to do this when I get home, as I'm sure I have some pieces in my wardrobe that really could be donated to a charity shop or similar! I agree with you about timeless pieces, there are some special occasion dresses in my wardrobe back home that I definitely won't wear regularly, but they hold so many memories that I just couldn't get rid of them!

  5. This is a great way to look at a wardrobe, I don't personally wear everything in mine and so I could probably do with donating some/most of it!

  7. Lovely post! I love clearing out and reorganising my wardrobe at least once a year! It's a great feeling once you've sorted out what you want to keep and what to go to the charity, to family, or to bin.

  8. Aww this is such a cute post! I agree with it all. I put on a dress a few weeks ago that I bought in NY when I went for my 21st and it brought back so many memories. And I still have every one of my graduation, formal and 'special' dresses.

  9. My wardrobe is the only thing I'm pretty strict with. I did a tonne of research on capsule wardrobes so I've really only got clothes that I truly love and wear all the time. I have lots of basics because they go with everything!
